About Us
Building Bridges USA provides historically balanced and Biblically grounded, non-partisan solutions to the challenges immigrants face as they become constructive participants in our society.
Many immigrants are traditionally devout, hardworking, and devoted to meeting their families’ needs. However, they arrive here not knowing where our freedoms and economic opportunity come from. Building Bridges tells the unique story of America, and why/how our shared American heritage is good news for all, including for them.
BBUSA also helps American groups (such as churches, for example) better understand and connect with the new arrivals in our community.
Our online content features informative videos and personal testimonies that help people understand and connect with our shared history and with the American economic engine.
My name is Francis Hobbes and I serve as the founder and executive director for Building Bridges USA.
Connecting with Hispanics in Spanish has been at the center of my life from the beginning. I grew up in a mixed U.S.-Peruvian family that got transferred all over as I was growing up – Peru, South Korea, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Washington, D.C., Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, and then back to D.C.
Lera and I have been married for 38 years. We have 4 adult children, and 5 grandchildren. I graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with a MA in Theology.
My 37 years of Christian ministry, serving and teaching the Hispanic population uniquely positions me to connect and equip the growing immigrant population that’s coming here to this country. From our time in Christian ministry in Guatemala (12 years), California (10 years), and in Oklahoma City (15 years) we instruct, persuade, and empower these “outsiders” to become “insiders” who spread this message of good news to their own people. It takes cross-cultural communication to another level when I address these newcomers and have to translate for myself from Spanish into English, and vice versa.
We literally speak their language!
